An Architect?
The titles "architect" and "chief technology officer" have morphed over the years. Let me explain what an architect is...
Bill Joy is an architect.
Linus Torvalds is an architect.
Steve Wozniak is an architect.
Then there are armies of people who do what I do, systems integration and software development. Some have very broad understand of diverse technologies. Some have very deep understand of specific technologies. Either way, they are NOT architects. They are systems integrators and software developers. I am a systems integrator and software developer with very broad understand of many diverse technologies.

For all recruiters...
Here are a few common recruiter questions and answers.
If you are a recruiter, read them. It will make our conversation much more pleasant.
My number ONE favorite recruiter question. I ask, "What's the rate?" Common answer, "It's open." WRONG ANSWER! If you don't have any idea about the hourly rate range that the client has in mind...
1) The client isn't serious.
2) You know and are trying to get away with paying as little as possible to the contractor.
Either way, I'M NOT INTERESTED if you can't be more specific about rate.
The next thing is margin. I will ask about your margins. I find there are two kinds of companies. Those that will tell you what their markup is, and those that will not.
If your margin is 40%. It's 40%. I don't care what the reasons may be. What I do care about...
if you can't look me in the eye and tell me what your margin is, I'M NOT INTERESTED.
Next. My background. If you start out with "I haven't had a chance to look at your resume... so, could you tell me..." NO! Read my resume. At least the first section. THEN call me.
I get a lot of very interesting (and I use the term very loosely) technical questions.
By far my favorite is, "Would you be willing to take a technical evaluation test?"
My answer, "Yes. I'll take any test that YOU will." (Thanks, rlt!)
